Pack your picnic, picnic blanket and astronomical excitement for an evening under the stars in Western Sydney. 

Under the quiet and stillness of the evening sky, you will have an opportunity to 

  • View the night sky through a telescope 
  • Watch the layers of the evening sky develop on an iPad 
  • Explore projections taken from a telescope   
  • Listen to Dr Luke Barnes (Western Sydney University) introduction into stargazing and astronomy

Join us for a beautiful night of science, nature and exploration in collaboration with Macarthur Astronomical Society 

BYO picnic blankets or seats (you may like to bring a torch with a red filter or red cellophane for better visibility at night)

Things to know before you attend 

Meeting point: The Dairy Picnic Ground, Western Sydney Parklands. 

Please come prepared, as this program will go ahead in all-weather unless it is unsafe to do so (for example, during high winds or thunderstorms). All participants must wear enclosed shoes.  

This program is suitable for families with children aged from 5 years. All children must be supervised by an adult. All program attendees require a ticket.  

We reserve the right to cancel the event in case of dangerous weather or if minimum participation numbers are not met. In these circumstances a refund will be offered. Please refer to our full terms and conditions for more information. 

Please note that there will be no food available on the evening. 

 

What to bring to the event 

Ensure you are prepared for this session by bringing: 

  • Picnic, picnic blanket or chairs 
  • Enclosed and comfortable shoes 
  • Warm clothing – it gets cold after dark! 
  • A torch with a red filter or red cellophane 
  • Camera (no flash) 
  • Waterproof clothing in case of wet conditions, as the sessions run rain or shine 
  • A sense of adventure 

 

Your responsibilities if you feel unwell 

I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure that all attendees associated with this booking do not attend if: 

  • We/I show any COVID-19, infectious disease or virus symptoms or feel unwell 
  • We/I have had a fever, diarrhoea or vomiting within 12 hours or at the time of the program 
  • We/I have been asked to self-isolate 
  • We/I have had a positive COVID-19 test result and continue to have symptoms. 

If any of the above apply to you or any attendee associated with this booking, we request that you do not attend this program. In this instance, please contact us via email on [email protected] to arrange for a refund of your ticket.
