Parklands Food Fest is back for 2019, with new chefs, new food and new entertainment for an all ages celebration of the homegrown on Saturday 7th September at Lizard Log, Abbotsbury, in Western Sydney Parklands.
Celebrity chefs Miguel Maestre and Anna Polyviou will take to the kitchen stage and host live cooking demonstrations, featuring recipes inspired by fresh, local, seasonal produce from the Parklands’ own urban farming precinct. They’ll be joined by the best of Western Sydney's producers, farmers and local heroes including Skye Blackburn of The Edible Bug Shop, Australia’s first ‘farmer’ of edible insects, and Thai-Lao food stars Tona & Ketty Inthavong of Green Peppercorn restaurant in Fairfield and Blacktown.
Now in its eighth year, Parklands Food Fest is the flagship event for Western Sydney Parklands, also known as “Sydney’s Biggest Backyard”. The festival is a must-do for Sydney’s food lovers and features over 50 food and drink stalls and market produce.
Returning to the festival is Australia’s leading food rescue charity OzHarvest. Executive Chef, Travis Harvey will also be on stage to demonstrate how to transform food that would otherwise go to waste into delicious dishes that will also be available from their food truck. In celebration of the recent launch of OzHarvest’s children’s book Lenny and The Ants, the little ones can enjoy story telling sessions and a special visit from Lenny the Roo as children go on a journey to discover a whole new way to think about food.
Adding to the lineup of delicious international and local cuisines will be a selection of vegan delights including the Mad Dog Kitchen with their smoked carrot hotdogs and soul food from Southern Soul amongst many others. Making its debut will be Don Taco by the acclaimed Ume Crew (of Ume Burger, Barangaroo and Pasta-wafu, Haymarket) who will bring a Japanese take on Mexican food.
Catch all the action and flare of traditional handmade noodles from Biang Biang, American style burgers and BBQ from Big Papas Food Truck, or Greek street food care of Lambda Souvla Grill and modern Indigenous food from the Goanna Hut. Wash it down with a fresh cold-pressed sugarcane juice from Tall Grass or Li’l Groovers lemonade.
Finish off the day with a few sweet treats from Gelato Messina or The Urban Gypsy Café featuring Egyptian inspired sweets and coffee by Pablo & Rusty as well as Diego’s bite sized donuts or Italian Biscuits and Cannoli from The Biscuit House.
Amongst the fresh food market featuring local produce from farmers such as Suns Fresh Farm, you will also find Aunty Gingers Tonic, dry-cured artisan salami, biltong and pork cracklings by Goose On The Loose and gourmet butter chicken meal and spice kits from Spicecraft.
There’s a bar serving up local brews and cocktails as well as live entertainment from reggae band Te Mana, RnB singer Jeida Woods and a kiddie disco as well as a dedicated kids’ zone including a circus playground, rock climbing and face painting.
