What is the Future Directions Paper?

The Future Directions Paper is a bridging document for revising the Plan of Management. It outlines key

principles to consider in planning the future of the Parklands.

The Paper is a base for starting a discussion and will inform the revised Plan of Management 2030. Your

feedback and suggestions on the Future Directions Paper will ultimately shape the Plan of Management 2030

and the Parklands’ future.

What is the Future Directions Paper Consultation about?

Consultation on the Future Directions Paper is all about getting feedback on the key principles and seeking

more information from you about how the plan will look and be implemented. It’s also about checking in with

the community and making sure we are on track before we start preparing the Draft Plan of Management.

When is the Western Sydney Parkland Future Directions Paper Consultation taking place?

Consultation on the Future Directions Paper will take place in September 2017 and there are

numerous ways you can provide comments and feedback.

What is the Plan of Management 2020?

The Western Sydney Parklands Act 2006 requires that a Plan of Management be prepared for all public land within

the boundary of the Parklands.

The Plan of Management provides a strategic management framework for the Parklands and assists

the Western Sydney Parklands Trust in determining actions and priorities over the coming years. The Plan of

Management sets out how the entire Parklands should be planned, developed and managed into the future.

Why does the Plan of Management need to be reviewed?

Under the Western Sydney Parklands Act 2006 the Western Sydney Parklands Trust has to review the Plan

of Management every seven years. The revised Plan of Management is required to be submitted to the

Honourable Gabrielle Upton, Minister for Environment and Heritage for her endorsement.

What’s happened to date?

Since the establishment of the Western Sydney Parklands in 2006 we have:

• Prepared and adopted the Parklands Plan of Management 2020 (2011)

• Prepared and adopted the Parklands Plan of Management 2020 Supplement (2014)

• Commenced the review of Parklands Plan of Management 2020 (currently being undertaken)

What happens after consultation on the Future Direction Paper?

Your feedback on the Future Directions Paper will be considered by the project team as they prepare the Draft

Plan of Management 2030. Your feedback and suggestions will help shape the Plan of Management 2030 and

ultimately the Parklands’ future.

In October/November 2017, once the Draft Plan of Management 2030 has been prepared we

will consult with the community on the actions and projects in the Plan. This stage is about checking in with

stakeholders and the community and getting feedback before we finalise the Plan of Management and submit

it to the Minister for endorsement.

When will the Final Plan of Management 2030 be endorsed?

We will provide the Final Plan of Management 2030 to the Minister in early 2018. After this time the Minister will

review the Plan, for endorsement.

What consultation and engagement has happened to date?

The Trust has recently undertaken a number of consultation activities with the community. This included an

Audience Research Survey in late 2016 and engagement on the Southern Parklands in December 2016. Over

2,000 people have shared their everyday experiences, stories and aspirations which have helped shape the

Future Directions Paper.

How can I provide feedback and make comment?

Community consultation forms an integral part of the future planning and management of the Parklands. You can have your say in a number of ways:

We will also be holding a number of events over the next four months which you can attend; these include community workshops and events. The events will be advertised in local newspapers and on this website. You can also email or call the team at any time.

When does consultation close?

Consultation on the Future Directions Paper closes on 18 September 2017.

What happens with feedback provided?

The project team will review all feedback provided. Your feedback and suggestions will shape the Plan of

Management 2030 and the Parklands’ future.

Once the Draft Plan of Management 2030 has been developed we will consult with the community on the

actions and projects outlined in the Plan.

Your feedback will then be used to finalise the Plan of Management and submit it to the Minister for

endorsement.
